Letter from the Program Director
Dear Prospective Residents,
I am delighted to introduce you to the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Lenox Hill Hospital which combines clinical excellence, individualized learning, and the vibrant energy of New York City.
We believe that outstanding patient care and personalized education go hand in hand. Our program offers residents the opportunity to train in a world-class facility while experiencing the diverse patient population that only New York City can provide. Our location in one of Manhattan's most distinguished neighborhoods allows our residents to care for a remarkable mix of patients, from local community members to international visitors, providing an unparalleled breadth of clinical exposure.
What truly sets our program apart is our commitment to individualized learning. We recognize that each resident brings unique strengths and career aspirations, and we tailor our educational experience accordingly. Our faculty work closely with each resident to craft a personalized learning pathway, whether your interests lie in academic medicine, primary care, subspecialty training, or medical leadership.
Our program benefits from being part of the larger Northwell Health system while maintaining the intimate, collegial atmosphere that makes Lenox Hill special. This combination provides our residents with access to cutting-edge research opportunities, diverse clinical experiences, and strong fellowship connections, all while fostering close-knit relationships within our department.

Letter from the Chair
It is my pleasure as the Chair of Medicine at Northwell Health/Lenox Hill Hospital and Michael S. Bruno Professor at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell to welcome you to the Department of Medicine at Lenox Hill. We are an institution with a storied 160+ year history providing patient care on Manhattan’s upper east side and are excited about our future opportunities. We have an innovative residency program which includes 94 residents including 16 preliminary trainees. Combined with the Department of Cardiology we offer over 60 fellowships, including the specialties of Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Geriatrics/Palliative Care, Hematology/Oncology, Nephrology, and Pulmonary/Critical Care. We are also very proud of having a Primary Care as well as HIV Medicine residency track which has allowed us to continually innovate in ways to provide care to a diverse and fascinating patient population.
One of the things that differentiate us from other programs is our culture. While we are proud of our patient-centeredness, there is also an understanding that our trainees are crucially important to our ongoing and future success. Residents we train disproportionately stay with us for fellowship training and eventual employment. It is our obligation to provide a supportive and richly educational training experience. In addition to our unique culture, we have nationally ranked specialties within medicine and other departments, which offers unique and vast opportunities in research, education, and clinical innovations.
Our hospital location within a quarter mile of Central Park and less than half a mile from the Museum Mile affords us unique and special cultural opportunities. While firmly embedded in the island of Manhattan, we are also part of the largest hospital system in the state of New York. As a part of the Northwell team you will have ties to 28 hospitals from Long Island to Connecticut. This affords excellent training and employment opportunities after residency.
We encourage you to explore our Northwell/Lenox Hill Department of Medicine Residency Program and join our storied and dynamic tradition. As an organization we look to elevate both the lives of our patients and members of our teams. We’d love for you to be part of our program and allow us to support your journey to becoming a skilled and compassionate physician.
